Today, I filed HB 1195, a vital piece of legislation designed to increase penalties on offenders who commit sexual crimes against our society’s most vulnerable—children and animals.
HB 1195 will require a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of at least five years to those who are convicted of possessing ten or more files of pornographic content involving minors. Additionally, HB 1159 adds a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years to those who generate child pornography and those who distribute child pornography.
Moreover, HB 1159 increases penalties on those who perform sexual acts on animals or those who obtain pornographic content of animals. Those who commit such crimes would be now subject to felonies of the second and third-degree.
It is imperative that we protect our most vulnerable from the most heinous crimes imaginable! I urge my colleagues to stand with me in aiding to protect children and animals from these despicable crimes. Thank you for your support—together we will ensure that our most vulnerable are protected, and that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in Florida.
