Rep. Berny Jacques qualifies for 2026 ballot via grassroots petition process

SEMINOLE, Fla. — Florida Republican Rep. Berny Jacques has qualified for the 2026 ballot by using the state’s petition process, avoiding the usual filing fees.

This marks the third consecutive election—and the fourth time in his political career—that Jacques has secured a ballot position through voter signatures rather than a qualifying fee. In Florida, legislative candidates can qualify by paying a fee or by collecting a specific number of verified signatures from registered voters within their district.

“I prefer the petition way because it’s the grassroots way and it’s a great opportunity to hear from my boss—the people of House District 59!” Jacques said on Instagram.

Jacques, a former prosecutor and current chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Subcommittee, credited his campaign volunteers and constituents for the milestone. He specifically highlighted the efforts of campaign manager Cassidy Hill and a team of volunteers who knocked on hundreds of doors to secure the required support.

Jacques represents House District 59, which includes specific areas within Pinellas County such as the city of Seminole, much of Clearwater, and portions of Largo. Jacques was first elected to the House in 2022. During his tenure, he has established himself as a prominent conservative voice on security, property taxes, and judicial issues.

While achieving ballot status is a key procedural victory, Jacques signaled that his campaign would maintain its pace ahead of the August primary and November general election.

“The job however is not finished,” Jacques said. “The door-to-door will continue until we achieve victory! Onward!”
